STUDY PROGRAMS

Doctoral Program

To be eligible for admission to the Doctoral program, a student must have very good academic records (both in undergraduate and graduate studies) and hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree, and a Master’s degree, preferably with a combination of course and thesis work, from an institution of good standing acceptable to AIT.

Candidates are normally admitted into the Doctoral program as full-time internal students.

To be eligible for admission to the external Doctoral program, a candidate must also:

  • have access to relevant academic faculties in the area of his/her residence;
  • have active contact with professional practice for a minimum period of three years since obtaining his/her last degree; and
  • have demonstrated a research capability through publications and/or other presentation.

Master’s and Diploma Programs

To be eligible for admission to the Master’s or the Diploma program, a candidate must:

  • hold a Bachelor’s degree (normally from a four-year program) or its equivalent in an appropriate field of study from an institution of recognized standing; and
  • have under graduate grades significantly above average.

Certificate Program

This program is aimed at middle level professionals with knowledge and experience, who required renewal or reorientation in the fields of energy. Candidates for the certificate program are required to take a minimum of 6 credits of coursework. Certificate students are expected to fulfill all requirements of each course, be assessed and receive a grade recorded on an official transcript. Certificate students are registered as full-time students of the institute. On completing the program as required, the student receives a Certificate of Attendance. A student successfully may also request a transfer to the Master’s program.

Special Program

In appropriate cases, candidates may be admitted as special students to follow a course or supervised program of study for short period. Any person who is not a regular student and who seeks to register for a course or to be attached to the institute to do research is required to apply for admission as a special student. Applications for the Special Program status must meet qualifications for admission to AIT and receive approval of the School Dean. Further, special students must complete registration procedures and have received the approval and confirmation of an available vacancy in course enrollment from the instructor.

Special students must complete registration procedures normally requiring them to hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Application Requirements

Application forms:
The application forms can be requested from the Coordinator, Energy Field of Study, AIT, P.O. Box 4, Klong Luang, Pathumthani 12120, Thailand, E-mail: epcoord@ait.ac.th; or can be downloaded from the AIT web site at http://www.ait.ac.th/AIT/admissions.

Transcript and degree certificates:
An official transcript of academic records is required from each college / university attended. Certificates must be submitted in original language; in case the original language is not English, their exact English translations are also required.

Letter of recommendation:
Two letters of recommendation should be submitted. Forms for recommendation are included in the application package.

English certificates:
All applicants have to produce evidence of proficiency in English. For admission, AIT accepts scores of 520 TOEFL, 190 computer-based TOEFL or 4.5 IELTS. Alternatively, a certificate confirming that the applicant earned the previous degree from a university at which the sole medium of instruction is English can also be considered as evidence. Once admitted however, all students sit in an AIT English placement test and those whose score is below the equivalent of 6.0 IELTS, 550 TOEFL or 213 computer-based TOEFL will have to attend English classes at AIT.

Applicants who are weak in English are strongly recommended to take English classes in their own country prior to coming to AIT. Pre-semester language support programs (Talkbase and the Bridging Program) are also offered by the Language and Educational Development Division of AIT Extension.
