Their Majesties' Scholarships

Their Majesties, the King and Queen of Thailand , graciously provide master's degree scholarships for study of various specializations at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). These scholarships cover the tuition and registration fees as well as bursary for living expenses. All eligible Asian students may apply.


RTG Master Fellowship Awards for Thai Students

Supported by Royal Thai Government, AIT offers Thai students an opportunity to study with finest students in Asia . A large number of no-bond fellowships intend to increase the competency of Thai scientists and engineers for the future challenges of FTA, in any field of its 3 Schools (Engineering & Technology; Environment, Resources & Development; and Management). Any Thai citizen with a bachelor degree and good proficiency in English can qualify for these awards:
1. Full Study-Cost Fellowships (752,000 Baht Award). This fellowship covers the entire study
cost of Masters program. Requirement: Cumulative GPA 3.5 or higher
2. 75% Study Cost Fellowships (564,000 Baht Award). Recipients pay study cost of one semester,
or 188,000 Baht. Requirement: Cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher
3. 50% Study Cost Fellowships (376,000 Baht Award). Recipients pay study cost of two semester,
or 376,000 Baht. Requirement: Cumulative GPA 2.75 or higher

Under the new Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (DICE), Ministry of Education, P.R. China and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), 10 doctoral scholarships for Chinese students will be tenable at AIT in academic year 2007-2009. The China Scholarships Council (CSC) will coordinate with AIT on the selection process. The admissions and selections schedule are as follows:

1. 31 January: Deadline of Application to AIT.
Candidates will submit their applications to Admissions and Scholarships Unit of AIT. CSC will announce and promote the joint scheme in targeted Chinese Universities. Applications will be considered by the faculties and departments of AIT and initial offer of admission will be made to candidates who have met the conditions of eligibility.

2. 20 March: Deadline of Application to CSC.
Candidates should also submit copy of their application to AIT to CSC along with the copy of the offer of admission from AIT. The Admissions and Scholarships Unit of AIT will send CSC its recommendation for the initially selected candidates.

3. End of April: Short-listing and Selection
CSC will do further short-listing and select the final candidates.

4. No later than the end of May: Confirmation and Formal Offers of Scholarship
AIT will confirm the final candidates with CSC and send CSC the formal offers of the final candidates.

5. Mid August: Enrolment at AIT
Arrival in Thailand of candidates selected for enrolment.

In order to distinguish that the candidate is applying for admission with scholarship under the present Program, the application should be indicated by writing “CSC/AIT”

For the August 2009 intake, the DAAD is going to offer up to five scholarships for applicants from CLMV countries to pursue a Master's degree at the AIT. The scholarship award covers tuition and other academic fees, and living allowances for a 22-month program. The scholarships value is THB 937,800 per scholarship holder, divided in THB 480,400 for the first year of studies (12 months) and THB 457,400 for the second and last year (10 months).

The Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst - German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Asian Institute of Technology ( AIT ) have agreed to strengthen national and institutional capacity of DAAD priority countries, namely Cambodia , Lao PDR , Myanmar and Vietnam through the offering of the DAAD- AIT Scholarships .

DAAD is one of the world's largest and most respected intermediary organizations in its field. Scores of students, teachers, researchers and scientists supported by DAAD have been able to gain valuable experience abroad. DAAD supports and promotes all areas relating to science, research, language, teaching and others.

The Asian Institute of Technology , on the other hand, is an international post graduate institute founded in 1959, and is Asia's pioneer institution established to help meet the region's growing needs for advanced learning in engineering, science, technology and management, research and capacity building. AIT 's mission is to develop highly qualified and committed professionals who will play a leading role in the sustainable development of the region and its integration into the global economy. AIT is based in Thailand and has affiliated centers in the region.

APPLICATION PROCESS, CRITERIA AND SELECTION FOR DAAD SCHOLARSHIP

To qualify, applicants must:
1) Be a bonafide national of Cambodia , Lao PDR , Myanmar or Vietnam .
2) Applicants should be not more than 28 years of age when applying.
3) They are requested to hold a Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 (or
equivalent).
4) Additionally a TOEFL of at least 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) or IELTS of at least
6.0 is mandatory. DAAD does not accept institutional TOEFL reports.
5) Prospective applicants will apply directly to AIT .
6) In addition to AIT 's application package, the applicant is to submit a CV (typed, 2 pages at
most) and a letter of motivation for the master's study.

Notes:
1) AIT shall forward the eligible application dossiers (pre-selected according to DAAD/ AIT
requirements) to DAAD along with a list of applicants ranked according to AIT criteria.
2) The final decision will be taken by DAAD screening committee. The successful candidates will
receive an official DAAD Letter of Award as soon as all formal requirements for admission and
enrollment at AIT have been met.

DIKTI Scholarships for Indonesian Lecturers

To date, the Indonesian Government has been providing opportunities for all lecturers to pursue further studies at leading Indonesian higher education institutions through BPPS Scholarships. In addition to this provision, starting from 2008, Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) through Human Resource Directorate (Direktorat Ketenagaan) offers scholarships to support the lecturers who would pursue Master’s and Doctoral degree at overseas universities.

Scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral Degree Programs at Overseas Universities funded by the National Budget

Background

The Act of National Education System No. 20/2003 and the Decree of Ministry of Education No. 42/2007 on Lecturer Certification state that lecturers must hold at least one higher level of education compared with the students they teach. This condition is stipulated along with the realization that lecturers holds central and strategic roles in higher education. Therefore, the quality of the lecturers highly determines the quality of any higher education institution.
To date, the Indonesian Government has been providing opportunities for all lecturers to pursue further studies at leading Indonesian higher education institutions through BPPS Scholarships. In addition to this provision, starting from 2008, Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) through Human Resource Directorate (Direktorat Ketenagaan) offers scholarships to support the lecturers who would pursue Master’s and Doctoral degree at overseas universities.

Program Description

This scholarship, i.e. the Overseas Postgraduate Scolarship Program (PBPLN), is offered by the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) with the following conditions:
• The scholarship will be funded by the National Budget (APBN)
• The scholarship is openly offered for all Indonesian lecturers from both state and private
universities
• The scholarship is awarded for a maximum period of 3 years for doctoral degree program and
2 years for master’s degree program
• The scholarship supports for the following item:
   o Tuition fees
   o Living allowance for the student (excluding his/her family)
   o Round-trip international air ticket
   o Health insurance
   o Book allowance
   o Settling allowance
   o Traveling documents (passport and visa), including medical check-up
   o Excess bagage at the end of the study program
   o Seminar/conference
   o Research/thesis allowance 
   o Registration fees  
• Amount awarded will be considered according to the conditions at the destination
• An allocation scheme applies and will be channeled through the Rectors, for state
universities and institutes, and the Coordinators for Private Higher Education Institutions, for
private universities and institutes. Therefore, the Rectors and the Coordinators should make
official arrangement with the Director General of DIKTI
• In cases where a part of the academic activities is to be conducted in Indonesia (e.g. data
collection), living allowance during which the activity is conducted will be paid according to
the BPPS standards.
• To comply with the National Budget Year, it is advised to take a study program that starts in
September Semester.

Eligibility

• Before applying for the scholarship, the applicant must have secured a valid Letter of
Accep tance and/or a professor that will be his/her advisor from a reputable overseas
institution (preferably from developed countries)
• The applicant must apply using the Form A(available for download)
• Not older than 50 years old at the time of applying the scholarship
• The applicant must attach attested copies of all previous degree certificates and transcripts
• The applicant must be proficient in English (proof of Institutional TOEFL score of at least 500
or IELTS score of at least 6.0 is needed) or other languages according to the regulation
stipulated by respective target universities (proof of language test battery is needed)
• Doctoral degree applicant must submit his/her Research Plan that has been approved by, or
at least has been communicated with his/her candidate advisor

Selection Mechanism

Selection process starts with administrative checking on all documents submitted, and followed by an interview (held in English) for those who fulfill administration conditions.

KAAD - AIT Scholarship Program

The KAAD, by its German name in full known as Katholischer Akademischer Auslander-Dienst (the Catholic Academic Support Service for Foreign Students, Germany) has, since long, provided scholarships for young professionals in need of such support from countries around the world.
Based on the agreement between the KAAD and Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the two organizations jointly provide scholarship support for qualified applicants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Vietnam, to pursue master's or doctoral degree program studies at the AIT. Interested persons may apply to any Fields of Study offered by the AIT. In exceptional cases, applicants from Thailand may be considered.

KAAD and AIT will co-sponsor the scholarship for successful applicants. The costs covered by the KAAD-AIT scholarship include those for tuition and fees, a monthly bursary and rental of accommodation on campus at AIT standard rates. In accordance with the regular duration of the postgraduate study programs, a master’s degree program scholarship is granted for a period of four (4) semesters (equal to 22 months), and a doctoral degree program scholarship is granted for a period of six (6) semesters (equal to 3 years).

AIT Admission Criteria

Applicants for the KAAD-AIT scholarship must fulfill the general qualification requirements for admission to AIT postgraduate study programs, as follows.

For the master’s degree study programs

• a Bachelor degree (normally of a four-year program of undergraduate studies) or its
equivalent in an appropriate field of study from a university or an institution holding an
officially granted university status, both of recognized standing;
• a significant undergraduate cumulative grade-point above average;
• an acceptable level of English proficiency;
• good physical and mental health.

For the doctoral degree study programs

• a Master’s degree or its equivalent in a subject related to the proposed dissertation research
topic;
• both undergraduate and graduate study cumulative grade points significantly above average;
• an acceptable level of English proficiency;
• good physical and mental health;
• an outline, not exceeding five pages, of the intended dissertation research.

KAAD Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants are preferably Roman Catholics, or else have a strong affiliation with the Roman
Catholic Church of their home country, with a personal, active commitment and dedication to
development projects implemented by the Church, and/or tangible accomplishments in
community development work under the auspices of national government units, international
agencies, or non-governmental organizations.
• Applicants should be of good character, personal integrity, and have a strong reputation for
upholding morale and being guided by ethical principles of high standard.
• Applicants should be fully aware, eager and willing to reap the academic, attitudinal and
professional benefits from the salutary opportunities of studying in a foreign country and,
while staying there, in an international community.
• Applicants should have the capability and determination to cope with the physical and mental
stress that might arise while pursuing their studies.

Documents Required and to be Forwarded to the KAAD

• One set of the completed application form, with two passport-sized photographs.
• Two letters of recommendation from university teachers (preferably referees at the rank of
full professor), who are specialized in areas compatible with the AIT Field of Study to which
admission is sought. These referees are expected to evaluate the applicant’s academic
qualifications and her or his potential for higher studies.
• In the case of applicants seeking admission to the doctoral degree study program of the AIT,
the referees are expected to give their appraisal of the applicant’s intended dissertation
research, as outlined by her or by him.
• Confirmation issued by the AIT that the applicant fulfills the qualification requirements for
admission to AIT’s chosen degree study program.
• One referee letter by a member of an organization of the Church in the applicant’s home
area. In this letter, emphasis should be laid on the applicants’ personal disposition and reli
gious convictions. It should as well specify the applicant’s active involvement in development
activities or ventures of the Church, and/or of other community-based social development
organizations.
• True copies of transcript of records (college and beyond).
• A certificate of English language proficiency, preferably of an internationally recognized stan
dard such as TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English
Language Testing System).
• An institutional endorsement, indicating service clause. For an applicant to be eligible for
KAAD support, this institutional endorsement is required. It is normally based on her or his
active involvement in development related projects.
• An essay written by the applicant on the significance of human resource development for the
society of the applicant’s home country.
• The applicant’s curriculum vitae.
• An outline of the applicant’s career perspective into the near future (not exceeding 20 lines
of text).

Procedure

• Interested applicants will obtain the AIT application form from the AIT Admissions and
Scholarships Unit, P.O. Box 4, Klong Luang, Pathumthani 12120, Thailand. The AIT
application form can be downloaded from the AIT Admissions Homepage . Communications
can also be sent using email addressed to admissions@ait.ac.th . Applicants must submit,
together with the application form, a short letter indicating that they apply for a KAAD-AIT
scholarship.
• Each application will be screened and assessed by Faculty members of the relevant AIT Field
of Study and Program.
• Applicants who satisfy AIT’s admission criteria will be notified to supply the set of
documents, which is required by the KAAD.
• Applications will be forwarded to the KAAD Partner in Bangkok, for their endorsement, and
then forwarded for consideration by the KAAD Academic Council in Germany. The KAAD Aca
demic Council will finalize the selection of scholarship awardees.
• Successful applicants will be notified by the KAAD Head Office in Germany.
• Applications for all master's as well as doctoral degree programs for the regular August
intake must reach the AIT Admissions and Scholarships Unit by the 15th of December of the
preceding year. For the January intake, applications must reach AIT by the 15th of June of
the preceding year.

Service Clause

KAAD and AIT support young academics mainly to assist their home countries in their efforts to improve the educational standard and to uplift the quality of life of the population-at-large. It, therefore, constitutes part of the agreement that upon completion of their studies, the KAAD-AIT scholarship recipients must return to their home countries and render their professional services, preferably to the endorsing organization. The nature and scope of this service-in-return of the KAAD-AIT scholarship award will be agreed upon by the scholarship recipients and their endorsing institutions, according to their own rules and regulations.
KAAD will include a service clause in its document to oblige the KAAD-AIT scholarship recipient to return to her or his home country right after graduation. In the event that a KAAD-AIT scholarship recipient does not honor her or his obligation under the said clause, he or she must repay to the KAAD the total cost of KAAD support.

The OPEC Fund for International Development Scholarship

OFID (The OPEC Fund for International Development) is pleased to announce that qualified undergraduate students are welcome to apply for the OFID Scholarship.

The OFID Scholarship will be awarded to support an undergraduate student from any
developing country, to pursue higher education in a relevant field of development, in any
recognized university/college in the world. Through its scholarship scheme, OFID aims to help highly motivated, highly driven individuals overcome one of the biggest challenges to their careers - the cost of advanced professional or graduate training.

The winner of the OFID Award will receive a scholarship of up to US$100,000 The funds will be spread over a maximum of two years, toward the completion of a Master's degree, or its equivalent, at an accredited educational institution, starting in the autumn of the academic year.
