Prof. C. Visvanathan participated in “7th International Conference on Solid Waste Management, Icon SWM 2017” held at PJTS Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, India on December 15 to 17, 2017. The major objective of the Conference was exchanging ideas between the scholars of different nations regarding better waste management and environmental protection.

Prof. Visu was one of the technical committee members of this Conference. In addition to this, he also delivered a keynote presentation on “The Business of Waste Management: Opportunities for (Informal & Formal) Private Sector”. The Conference was attended by participants from more than 20 different universities. The participants also had an informal discussion about creation of research collaboration and network as well as facilitate the students exchange between them. Moreover, different discussions regarding solid waste such as improvement in level of awareness, community participation, and technological innovations had been made in the meeting. In addition, issues on efficient governance, waste collection, segregation, reuse, recycling, treatment with several options of energy recovery, enhanced commitment and local participation, waste management as business model, and waste management data generation were discussed. One of the outcomes of this Consortium was to prepare a concept review paper on “Status of circular economy on solid waste management”.
