Dr.Soni, Associate Professor at SERD, was invited by the Agricultural Development Trust (ADT) Baramati to witness the inauguration of the Centre of Excellence for Vegetable. The Agricultural Development Trust’s KVK Baramati Centre of Excellence for Vegetables (An Indo-Dutch Project) (http://coekvkbaramati.com/) is claimed to be the first CoE on vegetables of its kind in India.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Mr. Sharad Pawar (Member of Parliament, and the President of ADT). Present among others were Mr. Aldrik Gierveld (Vice Agriculture Minister, the Netherlands), Prof. Peter Van Dongen (President of Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands), Mr. Pandurang Fundkar (Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra), Mr. Rajendra Pawar (Chairman, ADT, Baramati), Prof. K P Vishwanatha (Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, India).
As a parallel event, on this occasion, a Letter of Intent between the AIT, the ADT, and the MPKV was signed to establish an Experiential Learning Program for final year students of different agricultural disciplines. The selected students will spend six months at the AIT to gain advanced knowledge and experience on Controlled Environment Agriculture, Precision Farming, Hydroponics and Aquaponics, as well as on profitable vegetable production.
