TORUS 3rd THEMATIC WORKSHOP
CLOUD COMPUTING FOR AIR POLLUTION RESEARCH
Asian Institute of Technology, Pathumthani, Thailand
Nov 28 – Dec 2, 2016
The “Toward Open Resources Upon Services (TORUS)” is a collaborative project funded by the European Union (EU) under the framework of Erasmus+ Capacity Building. TORUS is funded for 3 years to have the transnational partnerships between educational institutions and organizations, training and youth programs in order to promote cooperation and development. TORUS is coordinated by the University of Toulouse 2 Jean Jaures (UT2J) and it consists of several partners from Europe and Southeast Asia (SEA): the International School of Information Processing Sciences Pau Campus (EISTI, France), University of Ferrara (Italy), University Brussels Vrije (Belgium), Vietnam National University in Hanoi and the Nong Lam University of Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Pathumthani and Walailak University in Nakhonshithamarat (Thailand). Project period is from October 2015 to October 2018. The main goal of the project is to create synergies and link between environmental science and cloud computing to promote multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration in the context of higher education and research. Under the TORUS project, cloud computing solution is introduced for building skills in setting up the system through training for the partners. One of the key project activity under TORUS is to conduct thematic workshops to be organized by partners in Europe and Asia. Project information can be found at http://cloud-torus.com/.
TORUS network consists of both environmental science and cloud computing experts that will work together on the thematic application of cloud computing. Several researchers from AIT, FIMO, WU and NLU specifically work on the air pollution related research hence this field is recognized as one of the key contemporary environmental issue in the project. The third (3rd) workshop organized during 28 November – 2 December 2016 at AIT Pathumthani-Thailand specifically covers the following thematic themes: 1) air quality and meteorological modeling, 2) wireless sensor monitoring, 3) satellite monitoring, 4) statistical tools for air quality research, and 5) cloud computing application for air quality research. The workshop is followed by hands-on training on cloud computing and applications.
