Prof. C Visvanathan attended the “International Workshop on Water, Sanitation and Resource Recovery Solutions for Sustainable Development” on April 6-7, 2017 at Islamabad, Pakistan.
The Workshop was organized by National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and was attended by more than 250 national and international delegates. The Workshop focused on decentralized wastewater treatment options for Pakistan’s urban centres. Prof. Visu delivered a presentation entitled “Wastewater treatment approaches for developing countries: AIT’s Research Direction”. He ensured AIT’s commitment in identifying and implementing appropriate technologies in Pakistan through research and pilot scale projects.
On this trip, Prof. Visu also met Mr. Patchamuthu Illangovan (Illango), the country director of World Bank for Pakistan. Mr. Illango is an alumnus of EEM, AIT (1983-85). The meeting was focused on developing research programs in Pakistan to address the water and wastewater management issues and possible AIT assistance to this initiative. Mr. Illango also offered his assurance to visit AIT on his next visit to Bangkok, Thailand.
