Water Technology Management

The world is increasingly urbanized with 50% of the world’s population living in urban areas. By 2030 in Asia 54% will live in cities compared to 39% in 2005. This enormous growth of urban areas poses several challenges, such as delivery of essential water and sanitation services and the management of the urban water cycle. This is also recognized by the Millennium Development Goals and Targets established at the UN Millennium Summit in 2000. These challenges are further complicated due to climate change, and it is foreseen that coping with them requires a substantial increase of highly trained and qualified human resources. This program will essentially look at the water technology and management issues with particular focus on raw water exploration, water treatment, distribution, quality control, management and organizational model for both rural and urban contexts.
