Final workshop co-benefit action plan from transport sector in Semarang City and project meeting
20-23 January 2017: Semarang, Indonesia
Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh visited Semarang City, Central Java, Indonesia during 20-23 January 2017 to conduct the final survey of the traffic pollution in the city and to participate into the final workshop of “Co-benefits action plan for transportation sector in Semarang, Indonesia”. This workshop is a dissemination activity of the research collaboration between the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), and Diponegoro University (UNDIP) which is funded by the Ministry of Environment of Japan (MoEJ). AIT conducted emission inventory of on-road transportation in Semarang using the International Vehicle Emission (IVE) model and quantified co-benefits of various emission reduction measures proposed for the city.
She met the team leader of UNDIP, Dr. Haryono Huboyo, and the students of Environmental Engineering of UNDIP on 21 January 2017 at the campus of UNDIP in Tembalang to discuss the survey results and possible follow-up research activities. A survey tour around the city was conducted on 22 January 2017 to observe the traffic activity in Semarang City.
At the workshop on 23 Jan 2017, she also delivered a presentation entitled “Emission inventory using IVE for co-benefits study of various emission reduction measures in transportation sector for Semarang City” to the representatives of Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Transportation, Semarang municipalities, and academicians. The workshop was also attended by the representative from MoEJ and the 100 resilient cities program (http://www.100resilientcities.org), World Bank, and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Indonesia.
She has actively participated in the discussion at the workshop and put forward recommendations to policy making in the country to curve down the traffic emissions.
IGES-AIT-UNDIP will incorporate the input, comments and suggestions from the workshop participants in the final report. Some pictures of the activities are presented below:
