A high profile delegation from Zhejiang Institute of Freshwater Fisheries (ZIFF), Chinese Academy of Sciences visited AIT from 3 – 6 December 2017. The delegation was led by Prof. Zhang Haiqi, Secretary of the Party Committee, ZIFF. Other members included Prof. Liu Li, Director of the Fish Disease Laboratory, Dr. Xu Binpeng, Giant Prawn genetics expert, and Ms. Xin Jianmei, Director of the Center R&D Affairs, ZIFF.
In the meeting at SERD, Dean, Prof. Rajendra P. Shreshta welcomed the delegates, followed by a presentation of the activities of AIT’s Aquaculture Academic Program (AARM) by Dr. Krishna R. Salin. Prof. Zhang Haiqi presented an overview of ZIIF and specialized research there. Dr. Amara Yakulpitiyage, AARM and Ms. Wannapa Pliansri, Office of the AIT President, also participated in the discussion. Various options for academic and research collaboration between AIT and ZIFF were discussed and it was decided that a MoU for formal partnership is signed in January 2018. Later the visitors proceeded for a tour of the aquaculture facilities in Thailand, before leaving for India to meet AIT’s partner organisations and aquaculture facilities in Andhra Pradesh.
